This exclusive event, scheduled for June 20th, 2024, coincides with “The Longest Day,” a day organized by the Alzheimer’s Association to raise awareness about Alzheimer’s disease.
The panel discussion will feature renowned experts from the Austin community, who are driving meaningful change in the field of Alzheimer’s and dementia care. Moderated by Emmy award-winning Spectrum News 1 Anchor and National Mental Health Correspondent, Nicole Clark, Ph.D., the event promises to be an insightful and informative gathering.

The panel will comprise a diverse group of professionals, each bringing their unique expertise and perspectives to the discussion:
- Alyssa Aguirre, MSW, LCSW-S, Assistant Director of Dementia Care Transformation at Dell Medical School, University of Texas at Austin, will share her insights on comprehensive patient and caregiver support, as well as innovative approaches to transforming dementia care.
- John A. Bertelson, MD, FAAN, Neurologist at the Comprehensive Memory Center, Mulva Clinic for the Neurosciences, UT Health Austin, will delve into the latest diagnostic tools and personalized care options for patients with cognitive disorders.
- Jennifer Prescott, RN, MSN, CDP, Founder and COO of Blue Water Homecare and Hospice, will provide her unique perspective as a member of the “sandwich generation,” highlighting the importance of compassionate and effective care for individuals with Alzheimer’s and dementia.
- Kim Rodriguez, CEO of BrainCheck, will discuss the company’s clinically-proven platform, which streamlines screening, assessment, care planning, and monitoring for cognitive impairment.
- Andrea Taurins, Executive Director of the Alzheimer’s Association, Austin, will emphasize the importance of community engagement, innovative research, and the integration of new technologies in transforming dementia care.

Bertelson, MD, FAAN, highlighted the advancements in personalized care for patients with cognitive disorders, stating, “Our ability to provide personalized care to patients with cognitive disorders has increased dramatically in the past few years and is heavily dependent on a variety of diagnostic tools.” Alyssa Aguirre, MSW, LCSW-S, emphasized the importance of comprehensive patient and caregiver support, saying, “By focusing on comprehensive patient and caregiver support and leveraging innovative approaches, we can change the trajectory for individuals with dementia and their families.”

Jennifer Prescott, RN, MSN, CDP, shared her unique perspective as a member of the “sandwich generation” and the importance of empowering providers to better support patients and their families. “Providing compassionate and effective care for individuals with Alzheimer’s and dementia is at the heart of our mission, and sharing information about the latest advancements in senior care empowers providers to better support patients and their families in every facet of their journey,” she said.
